There are many popular libraries to measure password strength, but most have glaring weaknesses. Inter alia combinations of letters and numbers with a certain length are considered safe. An example: NCC1701A. But everyone who knows James Tiberius Kirk knows that this is the identification number of his Enterprise.
In our password test, we use a tool developed by Dropbox to assess passwords, which is recognized as relatively good. 30,000 common passwords, first and last names according to US census data, popular English words from Wikipedia, US television and films as well as other common patterns such as data, repetitions (aaa), sequences (abcd) and keyboard patterns (qwertyuiop) are recognized and weighted by pattern recognition and conservative estimation.
Additionally we added typical german words, subjects, names, cities, keyboard patterns and many more. Regularly we expand and update both languages with new categories and words.Totally the dictionaries now contain more than 200.000 terms.
